Working together to grow the cannabis industry
Dwayne K. Montgomery
I am a native of Harlem New York and attended the Public School System. Upon graduation from Louis D. Brandeis High School, I attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice. It was here that I realized my passion for law enforcement. I graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
I have been a dedicated public servant for countless years. I joined the New York City Police Department at an early age. Upon graduation from the Police Academy, I was transferred to the 28th precinct, in the Village of Harlem. I quickly gained the trust, respect and confidence of my supervisors and was able to excel to the rank of Inspector. I held many prominent positions during my tenure:
• Administrative Officer, Patrol Borough Manhattan North
• Commanding Officer, 28th Precinct
• Executive Officer of the 32nd and 28th Precincts
• Commanding Officer, Management Information and Systems Development Section
• Integrity Control Officer for the Traffic Management Center
• Police Science Instructor at the Police Academy
My final assignment before retiring was the Administrator of the New York City Police Department’s Training Bureau. My duties were to assess the training given to over 50,000 Uniform and Civilian members of the New York City Police Department and to make recommendations for change.
One of the pinnacles of my career was the success I had in combating crime during 2007. The 28th Precinct, under my leadership, crime initiatives and strategies, obtained the largest overall crime percentage reduction of all city precincts. I reduced overall crime by 20%. Additionally, all major categories of crimes were also down. The most outstanding, rewarding accomplishments for that year was that there was only one homicide reported – and that the relationship between the police and the community was at an all-time high.
In October 2009, I retired from the New York City Police Department and started the Private Investigations Firm, Overwatch Services. In 2016, after building a successful company, I sold Overwatch Services. My talents were quickly sought out by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 237 President. I am currently employed with this union as the Director of Integrity, reporting directly to the Union’s President.
